Definition: Prophecy in this “third category” (the New Testament gift of prophecy) is a regulated message or report in human words usually made to the gathered believers based on a spontaneous, personal revelation from the Holy Spirit for the purpose of edification, encouragement, consolation, conviction or guidance but not necessarily free from a mixture of human error, and thus needing assessment on the basis of the apostolic (Biblical) teaching and mature spiritual wisdom.

Recognize God’s complete sovereignty in giving gifts freely to whomever he wills (1 Corinthians 12:11; Hebrews 2:4). Recognize that not all will become prophets (1 Corinthians 12:29). Desire earnestly this gift (1 Corinthians 14:1,5,39). Pray for it (1 Corinthians 14:13). Be grateful for the gifts you do have; use them to the full; rejoice that others are different from you; and avoid all jealousy (1 Corinthians 12:14-29).

The Holy Spirit likes to grab our attention by revealing details to the prophet that would not be obvious. This helps to choose to listen.

Prophets can get details of peoples struggles but always the most fundamental and first detail when the teaching about the gifts is that we are instructed that love is the motivator. We teach our folk never to use shame of guilt and it’s not our job to convict or convince people of sin righteousness and judgement to come. This the job of the Holy Spirit. It needs to be handled with sensitivity and always with a clear view of the redemptive loving purposes of God.

No. it is subservient to the written Word of God in that it should not contradict scripture. Humans make mistakes and we hold Team members to account. We have plenty of opportunity to examine the fruit of a Team members ministry with every review we do. Their willingness to be corrected and set things right are fundamental.

Every aspect of Gods interactions on the earth are designed to draw people into a close personal relationship with himself. He wants us to have a living vibrant relationship with him which the Bible describes is similar to marriage. When he speaks in pictures, he draws those who want more, closer. Those who want more also say they don’t see, so that they can see, and for those who say they can see and don’t want more, they become blind. The connection he wants is an ongoing conversation about any and every aspect of life and living.

The Bible is filled with stories of men, woman and young people who really had very little idea of who God created them to be. When he starts to reveal their identity (who they are and why they were created) too them, it seems so far-fetched and impossible. Read the story of Gideon. It’s a story of a man who did not know he was born a general and had the temperament needed to be a general. God knows what he has made and the purpose he has set for this life. He speaks to us about what he has planned for us. Our lack of knowledge is not a confirmation that it’s a lie but rather if we go and connect and ask the right questions (Who am I and what have you planned for me to do?), we will be surprised by his understanding.

1. Don’t treat prophecy flippantly. Listen carefully, record it and review what God says to you.

2. Do not chase after another prophecy but go back and see if there was still instructions or tasks left undone. When you have completed it, then go back for more.

3. Read it often so that becomes well known to you

4. Read it more carefully when you have decisions to make. There are often references as what God requires from you and how you are top see this moment.

5. Be prepared to do what he asks and to allow him to reshape and change your thinking about yourself and your circumstances.
